The only thing I love more than teaching ukulele is playing ukulele! It’s one of the ways I feel connected to myself as a musician and performer. As the holidays near, one of the biggest requests I get is Christmas songs for ukulele. Although I don’t create the play along videos, I’m sharing Holiday play along from YouTube channels such as Ukualiens and Ukeplayalongs. Easy Songs: 3-4 Chords
Felix Navidad is an easy song to play with 4 simple chords C, F, G7, and Am.
This is one of those tunes every child knows and loves! Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer contains the chords C, F, G7, and D7.
Jingle Bells is another winter favorite and perfect for classes that can’t sing or celebrate specific holidays. It uses the chords C, F, G7, and D7.
Who doesn’t want to relieve your 80s with a little Wham? Last Christmas uses the chords C, G7, Am, and Dm.
Run, Run Rudolph is such a fun little tune. It uses only 3 chords – C7, F7, and G7. That F7 will provide a fun challenge for sure!
Silent Night is a beautiful sacred tune for Christmas. It uses the chords C, D7, and G.
Winter Wonderland is a great song when you need to challenge your high level students. It uses the chords C, D7, Dm, E7, G, G7, A7, and B7.
Intermediate Songs: 5-8 chords
Santa Claus is Coming to Town is a children’s favorite and uses the chords C, D7, Em, G, A7, and Am.
Who doesn’t love the Chipmunks? Christmas Don’t Be Late uses the chords C, Cm, D7, G, G7, A7, and Am.
Channel your inner Mariah Carey with this Christmas classic! All I Want for Christmas is You uses the chords C, Cm, D7, Em, E7, G, Am7, and B7.
Let it Snow is another favorite holiday song! It uses the chords D, D7, Em, E7, A, and A7.
Frosty, the Snowman is a favorite holiday song of children everywhere. It uses the chords C, C7, Dm, D7, Em, F, G7, and Am.
This one always reminds me of Home Alone! White Christmas (not the Bing Crosby version) is a Christmas staple! It uses the chords D7, Em, G, G7, Gmaj 7, Am, and Am 7.
Advanced: Jedi level chord work
This always a faavorite in my classroom! The challenge with Jingle Bell Rock is that the chords change about every 2 beats!
Here Comes Santa Claus is another Christmas classic! Don’t let the intro scare you! The verse is doable for beginning students!
Play through this song a few times and your heart will grow three sizes, just like the Grinch! You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch is a fun play along for all ukulele enthusiasts!
It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas always brings on all the holiday feels! This song provides a nice challenge for more advanced players!
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree will give you a barred chord workout! But you’ll be boppin’ and playing along in no time!
